The Driving School Office was first conceived in 1998, when our founder Alan Best identified a gap in the rapidly evolving technology industry for an online management tool for driving schools.
Alan sat in his office after a long day spent teaching with pen and paper in hand and started jotting down his own driving school’s requirements. Like so many others, Alan was looking for a technological solution to help him solve a simple, but long running problem:
“How can I manage my driving school more efficiently? There must be a way to store my customer data online and run an online calendar that can manage all my instructors and their bookings”
After trawling the internet on a dial up connection, and completing hours of research, he found there was no software on the market that met all of his needs in one package, so he decided to put a team together to create a complete solution. Alan spent two years building the team and planning the development of Driving School Office’s first edition, Engine 1.0.
Engine 1.0 spent two years in development and was tested throughout 2000 and then released for public use in 2001.
Since it’s inception Driving School Office has listened to customers’ needs and built a system based around their requirements. We are proud to say that most of these customers have been happily using the software over the last 17 years and are still contributing to its ongoing development today. Driving School Office’s Engine 1.0 was way ahead of its time and it wasn’t long before competitors started to emerge.
In 2007 our team decided that, for the business to continue, they needed a more secure platform for the future development of the system. This meant radically changing the entire system as well as migrating customer data from the old system to the new one.
The team got to work planning & designing the next major iteration of the software - Engine 2.0. This was released for testing in 2012.
The team got to work developing Engine 2.0. This was released in 2012. Since its launch, Engine 2.0 went through many micro updates as newer technology allowed us to make regular and continuous improvements. This version of the system was not replaced with a major update until January 2016 when the feature rich Engine 3.0 was released.
Engine 3.0 is the third major release of Driving School Office, the web-based app designed for cloud-based management of driving schools and pupils. Behind Engine 3.0 are a dedicated team including current ADIs, as well as Programmers, Web Developers and Graphic Designers who continually strive to improve, enhance and extend the software for their clients’ benefit. Engine 3.0 has been developed through a combination of technological advances and client feedback, making it the best release to date.
The system has been designed for driving schools of all sizes, from individual instructors to larger franchises, and with costs starting at just the price of one lesson per month the Driving School Office platform offers its customers the opportunity to maximise productivity, enhance their revenue, reduce their administrative costs and increase efficiency.
For larger schools, the system enables effective collaboration and resource use. The cloud-based platform means businesses no longer need paper diaries and customer records, ensuring their customer’s data is stored inline with current standards both safely and securely in their cloud based environment.
Since we launched Engine 1.0 we have booked over 1 million lessons using our bespoke booking tool. We are now developing Engine 3.5 which will be available for all users in late Spring 2018.
